
Volunteer Duties
Volunteers will be required for a range of duties for the tournament to be held at Central Field 1 and 2 between July 5th to July 11th, 2009. If you would like to be involved, please submit our volunteer interest form. Volunteers are required in the following areas:
Volunteers Who Require Knowledge of Softball
- Scorekeepers will be responsible for scoring the game to satisfy the requirements of Softball Canada. Volunteers will need to be very experienced in scoring games. A training course will be provided for the scorekeepers to ensure that they keep score as per the requirements.
- Statisticians will be required to calculate the stats for the games and to put the stats on the website
- Announcers will be responsible for obtaining and announcing the starting
lineups for both teams, the player's name, number and position as well as
the score and advertisements as required. Bilingual announcers will also be
required.
- Scoreboard operators are responsible for keeping the electronic/manual
scoreboard up to date during the game by keeping track of balls, strikes,
outs, player at bat, score and inning. Some knowledge of the sport is
required.
- Bat boy and bat girl are assigned to a team for the tournament
Volunteers Who Require No Knowledge of Softball
- Canteen staff will sell food and drinks.
- Clothing staff will sell clothing.
- 50/50 ticket seller will sell tickets at the stands at both diamonds.
- Ticket sales will be responsible for selling the tickets for the tournament for those people without passes and for stamping the hands of those who have paid.
- Security will be responsible for checking to ensure that no one is entering the facility without paying, dealing with any matters, walking about the facility during the tournament to ensure that everything is in order, and providing security in the beverage tent when it is open.
- Team hosts will be assigned to each team to answer questions and assist where required
- Beverage tent volunteers will sell alcoholic beverages at the beverage tent at Central Field
- Dugout patrol will be responsible for ensuring there is fresh water and oranges in each of the dugouts and that the dugouts are tidied up between games, checking the bathrooms for toilet tissue and troubleshooting at the diamond. They will also be responsible for stocking the umpires rooms with fruit and water.
- Parking attendants will be responsible for monitoring the parking at Central Field.
- Media personnel will be required to work during the tournament to deal with the local, national and international media who will be covering the tournament.
- Office staff will be required to answer the phones, photocopy and fax as required at the office that will be housed at Central Field
- Flag bearers will be required to carry the flags during the opening ceremonies.
- Ball chasers will be required to chase and retrieve balls that go out of play during the tournament at both diamonds.
