Prince Edward Island is easily reached by air and land: there are several flights daily
connecting Charlottown Airport
to points across Canada, and the Confederation Bridge
provides convenient access to New Brunswick and Northumberland Ferries
provides frequent ferry service to Nova Scotia.
The Getting Here section of the
PEI Visitors Guide has complete information and links to assist you in travel planning.
Arrangements will be made for teams to be picked up at the Charlottetown Airport.
As stated by Softball Canada, only teams to a maximum of 20 people are to be transported from the Charlottetown Airport. The same conditions will also apply for the transport back to the airport at the end of the championship on July 13th, 2009. The Host is not required to transport fans from the Charlottetown airport, nor to or from any of the championship sites. Fans will have to make their own transportation plans unless there is room on the bus in which case we would be pleased to transport them.
Players and coaching staff are our priority for transportation. The tournamament and most hotels are within 20 minutes of the airport so it is not too difficult to find transportation; you may wish to consult the Province's Getting Around PEI page for additional information.
Tournament transportation will be provided by a private sector
company with two 47 seat coach buses. Look for a greeter and the Superior Transportation blue coach bus when you arrive at the airport.
Teams can also arrange to book the buses to pick them up at the Moncton, New Brunswick airport about 2 hours by car from Charlottetown crossing the Confederation Bridge at a cost of $945 including taxes payable immediately at the time of pickup.
There is only room for one team on the bus at a time coming from or going to the airport given the softball gear and the luggage. The participating team is responsible for the costs of getting to and from any airport other than Charlottetown.
Teams are responsible for arranging and paying for their own transportation to and from the Moncton. To arrange for transportation using the coach buses to and from Moncton, New Brunswick, you may contact Paul Murphy at Superior Coach Lines, P.O. Box 1827, Charlottetown, PE, C1A 7N5, via telephone at (902)892-1333 or email.
The Host is responsible for providing transportation to and from the
Charlottetown airport, which is the designated airport for the tournament, and to and from the diamonds. Transportation will be provided through the use of two coach buses which will go from UPEI
to Central Field 1 and 2.
Buses will pick players and coaches up at the main entrance to both diamonds and at both
residences at UPEI.
The intent is to run every half hour or whenever there are
sufficient number of players and coaches to fill the bus. The bus
seats approximately 47 people.
There are other means also of getting around the city and the
province; you may wish to consult
the Province's Getting Around PEI page
for additional information.
