- How far is the Charlottetown Airport from the diamonds and the hotel?
Charlottetown is a small city. The airport is 5 -10 minutes from the diamonds and the host hotel UPEI.
- Is there any place to throw a ball around by the host hotel?
There is a field in front of the host hotel UPEI that can be used.
- Where is there to eat around the host hotel UPEI besides the Wanda Wyatt Dining Hall?
There is a Subway, Burger King, Smittys, MacDonalds, East Coast Marios and a Tim Hortons within a block of Bernadine Hall and the New residence or about 5 minutes walking distance
- Are there any grocery stores close to the host hotel UPEI?
There is a large Atlantic Superstore within a block of UPEI.
- Are there any other places to shop within walking distance?
The biggest mall on PEI (the Charlottetown Mall) is a 10 minute walk from the UPEI residence. There are two other small strip malls within a 5 minute walk that include such stores as Indigo(book store), Marks(clothing store), and the Bulk Barn(bulk food).
- What is the population of Charlottetown, the capital city?
There are approximately 40,000 people within a 10 kilometre radius of Charlottetown.
- Is there any public transportation?
There is a public transit in Charlottetown. Cabs are available on a flat fee rather than a metered basis. There are other means of transportation as well.
- What about the diamonds?
Both diamonds are softball diamonds. Central Field 1 and 2 are gravel chip surface. The warm up field for Central Field is the rugby field behind the diamond for night games and the Queen Elizabeth diamonds during the day.
- How do the taxes work on PEI?
PEI charges a 10% sales tax that is applied after the 5% Goods and Services Tax. However, there is no Provincial Sales Tax on books, clothing or footwear so they are taxed only at the 5% rate. There are lots of shopping options.
- What currency will be used at the tournament?
Canadian currency will be required for tickets, clothing, photographs and concession items. Other currency will not be accepted.
- What will the weather be like on PEI in July?
Weather is one of the most difficult things to predict. The summer of 2007 was a warm summer in July and rain in August. Check out this weather page for more information.
- What about the beaches?
The water on the north side of the province tends to be cooler since it leads to the ocean while the south side water tends to be warmer since it is sheltered in the strait. PEI beaches are the warmest north of Florida.
- What about Anne of Green Gables?
One of the longest running musicals, Anne of Green Gables plays at the Confederation Centre. You can also visit the Anne of Green Gables homestead in Cavendish.
- What is there to do in Charlottetown and on PEI?
There are too many things to see and do. There are festivals and events, horse races, beaches, siteseeing, historical and cultural places to visit such as Province House where the notion of creating Canada was first discussed. There are also lots of things to do outdoors.
